| The Great Observation Wheel, Beijing, is one of China's most prestigious government supported tourism projects, comprising a giant observation wheel with supporting commercial facilities to be built in Beijing's Chaoyang Park. Opening is scheduled end of 2009.
Chaoyang Park is located to the northeast of the city centre and is on the East Forth Ring Road. This is the main route from the city to the airport. The park has a total area of 320 hectares and is approximately 2.8 kilometres long, 1.5 kilometres wide. The wheel is located at the north end of Shuidui Lake in the North East corner of the park, with unique views over the lake, towards the city skyline and to the countryside beyond. Of special interest are also the sight lines down the newly opened and landscaped water channel going to the centre of Beijing.
The Park was opened in 1984 and as well as well as being a favourite place for the local people, for kite flying, sports and exercise; it has regular cultural activities and entertainments. Chaoyang Park is the chosen venue for the beach volley ball events for the Olympic Games in 2008.
